About five years ago, my husband Adam and I decided that it was finally time to start looking to purchase a house. We had always talked about buying an older, fixer upper home because we’ve had the idea that they hold more charm and character. Plus we can appreciate a place that has it’s own quirks and we love the

i have something of an update to my report from last year. i’m an atheist and a skeptic, but part of being a good skeptic is looking fairly and honestly at all the evidence. probably this can all be explained by some weird instance of sleep disruption, but there’s enough weirdness to it to make an avowed

Aw I love your cat. She is like no nonsense here please.

That first story reminded me of a story I heard when I was living in Japan. I worked for a chain of English schools at their main branch, so I got to hear a lot of stories and gossip about other teachers. Unfortunately, a few female teachers did have issues with creepers. For example, in Japan it’s very common for

I definitely never considered them evil! Just added another layer of intrigue to the house. They were definitely ventilation grates to the basement, and they went around the entire perimeter of the house. So, idk bout ‘decoration’, but probably trying to warn evil away like you said.

I’ve never posted, so this might live in the greys forever. But!

Two Stories!

My mom tells us not to talk about it, but there is something sensitive about our family. We feel things, and then we bite our tongues to prevent bothers from thinking we are nuts.

I have really bad sleep paralysis, regular nightmares and hallucinate when I wake up regularly. So I’ve seen some pretty fucked up shit that’s not real.

I’m not a good storyteller and I’m not sure this is scary but here it goes.

I grew up in a tiny 2 bedroom house in the old part of town (suburb of SF) with my parents and my brother and sister. For as long as I lived in that house (from about 2 months old - 11 years old) and for as long as I can remember, I had night terrors that would make me lunge awake screaming, sweating and sobbing. It

I’ve been reading these stories for a few years now, and I thought I should finally write about what happened. About the cold woman.

I’m crine at the idea of a silent library, then suddenly a wail erupts from one of the computer terminals. It’s Granddad, rending his clothes and tearing at his hair. People rush to his aid, but he just keeps screaming...

I shared this a few years ago, but it was in response to someone else’s story, so it may have gotten a little buried... but it’s one of those “true” stories so it’s scary af.

Here’s the thing: cows are stupid.

I grew up in a 200-year-old house on an old pig farm. We were always digging up old stuff in the field and playing in the washhouse and climbing the old apple trees. It was very Tom Sawyer. We were absolutely, 100% not allowed in the barns because they were deathtraps. There were only five other kids nearby and we all

I have a story— it’s really not that scary. More eery. But it’s the only one I’ve got!

YES YES YES YES. I look forward to this shit ALL YEAR. Not to downplay all the other funny and good Andy important things Jezebel publishes throughout the year, but spooky stories is your very greatest tradition.

OMGGGGG I have literally been waiting all year for this. Excuse any typos, as this was typed at my desk in a moment of extreme excitement!

Yay I have one to share this year! Not bone-chillingly terrifying but certainly freaked me out. I leave on 5 acres of wooded property in the Pacific Northwest that backs up to a lovely river. My husband and I first moved here a year ago and whenever we would go to the river he would ask if I was humming or singing. I
