1. Plenty of girls talked to me in high school and college, since I have a personality and played soccer - which never had cheerleaders, yet somehow we all managed to get by.

My wife is a model, and she’s been called on castings for cheerleading gigs with major franchises. The acrobatic/athletic stuff is covered by girls who have that experience (and are usually on contract with the teams), but a lot of the girls on the field come directly from modeling agencies, especially if they need…
Wrong. Not all models can cheer; that shit is pretty physically demanding and usually requires the ability to dance.
1. No no, the practice of cheerleading at pro sporting events is stupid and useless, not the women who chose to be cheerleaders themselves. Guess I should’ve said “cheerleading”.
I’m okay with grid girls. It’s really no different than modeling, and probably less sexualized. However, I think F1 should add “grid boys”- 20-something jacked dudes wearing spandex and bike shorts, doing the same work as the girls. If people want to make money off their beauty, I say let ‘em, but give equal…
Nah. More like pro organizations are taking advantage of these women, and telling them that they’ll have all these opportunities if they cheer blah blah blah. Y’know, kinda like the whole fucked up situation going on with Hollywood now. It’s hardly the first instance of someone promoting a job that sounds good, only…
I think that cheerleading as a sport in and of itself is totally fine (think Bring It On), but the women on the sidelines just waving pompoms and smiling when the camera pans to them is kind of gross.
A demeaning, minimum wage gig.
Yes. Yes I am.
Right. Now they get paid $9.00 an hour.
Cheerleading in high school (and in college) isn’t like cheerleading for pro sports teams. There’s legit competitions between cheerleading squads in highschool and college. And at both of those levels, participants usually don’t have to worry about paying bills.
The solution to making Grid Girls more relevant is to have half of them be Grid Boys.
Yesssss. This is a silly and sexist charade, but if we’re keeping it* I want guys in crop tops.
It’s not like modelling. When’s the last time a bunch of dudes made up a majority of a fashion show’s audience, and went around pawing at/hitting on the models? Hell, Hooters girls have a better work environment.
It’s not sill nor pointless. It provides, in your example, a person with a career opportunity that they enjoy.
I’m offended by “grid girls”. There is no reason to have them. I also think the NFL’s use of cheerleaders is very dumb. Motorsports, or any other sport, is not there to activate your cock (or whatever you have that might be activated).
The plural of “anecdote” is not “data.”
I googled “grid guys” to find where I had seen some race doing grid guys instead of grid girls, and I’ve now learned that apparently a grid guy is a brolly dolly.
The only value I can think of is how valuable a resource they will be for future historians as they look back on this absurd period in history.
SHS really does feel like a kiss-the-ring sort—but that shouldn’t be surprising, given the predilections of her boss.
