The US is a developed nation, and an extremely wealthy one, at that. Our economy is not based on exporting goods, our economy is driven by domestic consumption.

The only way to reduce at least the steal part of the trade deficit is to make more steel here in the US, however to get factories up and running, and man them, will take a few years. It would also require someone willing to do so, and they’d still be competing with foriegn companies doing the same thing.
