I had a 2.0L Crosstrek manual while my STI was in for service. While it certainly wasn’t for me, I could see the appeal. I mean, it’s really the same value conversation as you have with the Civic Type R vs ROW; if you value Acura reliability, ergonomics, design, performance and drive-train over the others, it’s a good value and a good choice. If you don’t....well, it isn’t.

Oh, I know what the B58 is capable of. I have one. The thing is, if Toyota decided to increase the power of the B58 at all, I don’t think BMW would have much say in the matter.

We don’t need an S58-powered Supra and the long-term reliability issues that will bring. A hotter tune on the existing B58Tu will be fine.

This is true but I think this is a case of the transmission being strong but not adequately tuned/calibrated for each application. Other than typical one-upmanship, I don't understand why they're not using the ZF boxes
