My mom is seemingly able-bodied and healthy. She even goes for longish walks almost every day. However, she also has a super rare degenerative neurological condition, and has tumors on every nerve ending along her spine. Up to C1, I think. If the top tumor grows any more, it'd press against her brain stem.

I'm torn. I would be so embarrassed and horrified by that type of public proposal.... It would be genuinely awful for me. I would say yes publicly, then no in private, but isn't it just as terrible to propose that publicly to someone who would hate that? It shows a serious lack of mutual understanding.
