Most of them. 10-12hp/lb is the sweet spot where you can still have fun on the street without immediately going to jail, and the car is fast enough on track to scare you (but not so fast that you can never hope to drive it at 10/10 without being a pro driver). Anything above that doesn’t have a ton of appeal to me.

Not quite. The Citroën 2CV based Lomax reportedly handles fine, in a Morgan sort of way. It’s just a lot cheaper.

Yup, these & the GM A, B, & C bodies are relatively simple vehicles that a competent mechanic who is not a contortionist can repair.  The Panther & B bodies were the darlings of law enforcement because accident repairs were not a chess game like unibody repair seems to be.  Plus the old folks loved them.

The fox mustang was a teenager killer. Not only was it shockingly quick for the price and day, but the suspension sucked.

I definitely may have spun out on slick roads in my first year driving my 86 hatchback.  I may have been too careless on if i beat it up having only paid $250 for it.

Something about 120mph in a Fox body 5.0 on a “let’s skip school” road trip comes to mind. God, we were dumb and lucky not to die.

Furthermore, if you want to learn some basic engine work, the clam-shell hood on these opens wide and the 1500 cc engine is so small that you can just sit on the front tire while you wrench away.

+1 for leaking t-tops and pop up headlights that don’t consistently pop. That’s some good 80’s right there. 

Kind of shocked that I got this deep in the thread before somebody mentioned Virginia. To me, the easy answers are Virginia and Georgia, which are the states which WILL pull you over for driving 1 mph over the speed limit, and in Virginia driving like a normal person will get you put in jail. As a former owner of numerous 82-85 Firebirds and Camaros, I can say for certain that 3/4 of the torx heads you see in these early models are fake. 86 came with a redesign and the screws you see are actually screws.
