I think at large, between the Dixiecrats and whatnot that the GOP at large has always been like this, at least in the last 40-50 years or so. This pretty much deconstructed every argument I had in conflict with the article. The police in Spider Man aren’t the police in reality. It’s just another part of the setting.
My solution to reconciling all of this was to just treat it as another fantastical element of the setting. If I can buy that a guy can run on walls then I guess I can buy a world where the police deserve the level of trust the game gives them.
