Ed.4 might be watered down, but it's much easier to get others to play with you when the rules are simpler. People tend to get more into role-playing when their not bogged down in lot's of math.

What happens is that people get really comfortable with a certain rule set and character building framework and don't really want to put the energy into learning something new... It's really sad how lazy some people are.

The only thing I recall that even remotely talks about male performativity was something by Judith Butler. Feminist and Queer Theorist talking about lesbian women performing masculinity is probably not a direction you want to explore, but that's what I've got. It's funny the only thing I can think of on the subject…

I always thought that whole point of academia was to make big enough mountains that get you published out some microscopically small godforsaken molehill.

My female friends who play FPS never play with chat activated. The comments ruin the whole experience. Generally, we (the Royal "We" for female identifying gamers) also play a lot more JRPGs to avoid the problem altogether. Although then we lose out on the one social aspect of video games.

The environment is so toxic, that a lot of women "stay in the closet" in regards to gaming: even in all women environments.
