With numbers like 70 % of oscar voters and 80 % of oscar nominess being men, this is how they want to solve sexism?
I agree with all of that.
i watch Oscars for all the pretty dresses.
I'm not saying the ManiCam wasn't stupid. I am absolutely not saying that women don't get asked stupid questions.
No. Fuck this. As a fashion designer who's dream was to see someone wear a dress of hers on the red carpet, you can certainly ask her more, but don't ask her less. Don't shit on my dreams because they have a standard leading question. This year I was able to see one of my designs walk down the red carpet on an actress…
It confuses me why talking about clothes, etc., on the red carpet is "bad." That's what a red carpet of an awards show is for, I thought...
I like hearing about the fashion. I also like hearing about what inspired the actresses and how they feel their films are changing the way we look at [insert subject] and whatever else.
OMG THERE'S MORE THAN ONE? That doesn't look like Ottawa.
I don't think that DuVernay necessarily got snubbed, but I think the reactions to the nominations this year are sparking a very necessary conversation about the Oscars' relationship to race, and it's good that that happened even if the thing that sparked the conversation doesn't necessarily hold up to further scrutiny.
The monk is still alive, he is just in deep meditation.
The irony is that the very reason they have any success at all is due to those very same people watching their show and clicking through on articles about them. Their fame is entirely predicated on the consumption of their lives as a product. It's like bitching about oil companies when you drive and fly everywhere.
Also, according to some media sources, when the Imam told women to step back, hundreds of them went and carried her coffin, and led the funeral prayer themselves.
I'm not going to suggest that institutionalized racism isn't a huge fucking problem. Denzel not winning for Malcolm X and Spike Lee not even being nominated when even people who dislike his politics have to admit he's a motherfucker of a director come to mind.
I gotta tell ya, I think the level of vitriol directed toward the Kardashians says a tremendous amount about our society. I don't particularly care for them, which I've said time and time again. I think they're kinda tacky and boring.
I do too...
"A yearbook photo that he literally took full credit for coming up with..."
Know what else I'm being? Correct.
Oh, fuck this. I'm guessing he was being bullied at his school and the adults couldn't be bothered to do anything to rein in the little shits, just like it was when I was a kid. The excuses were always, "oh, they need to work it out themselves," or "oh, honey, just ignore them, they're jealous," or other bullshit…
