Why is that unfair? California is the 5th largest economy in the world. South Dakota’s is 25th in the US.

Seems 100% reasonable that California would enjoy more political influence. 

Arguably, it is unbalanced and unfair for a group of 40 million people to have the same political representation in a nation’s highest legislative chamber as a group of 90 thousand people.
