Every toxic family is dysfunctional in its own JOYOUS unique way — is it possible the dysfunction in your friend's fam is more about poor communication/poor self-advocacy skills? Maybe her husband's issue is just that he doesn't know how to stand up for himself and voice his limits, and that's the only kind of

I think we've all been there, and it's a really shitty phase to be in. I say "phase" because, almost always, things kick into higher gear on the work or relationship front (often both!) eventually, but the powerlessness of feeling like you can do nothing but wait for it to happen is highly dispiriting.

I'm only 3 (4?) eps in, but I have to say, one of the things I find oddly refreshing about True Detective is its relative sex/gore restraint.

That is an oddly sexy "Action Man!" vibe he's givin' the camera, there!

The plot: SHE THICKENS.

My goodness. What is Lord Grantham/Hugh Bonneville doing at Sochi? He is unamused.

Such a pretty sounding name, too. I wonder if the issue is that it perhaps sounds like a bad word phonetically in Spanish?? Or maybe the authorities assume parents are naming their kid after the tire company? Bizarre, either way.

They've been used interchangeably often enough that there's an argument to be made that they're synonymous. BUT, at least per modern N American usage, I'd say "Nerd" is still a "high intellect/low social order" pejorative descriptor, and geek more typically designates a person with a passion or obsession of some kind

Will a TV series do—?

Oh, MAGGS. How I love thee. Seriously, one of the strongest, most indelible characters/performances I've seen. A really rare marriage of excellent writing and acting.

Honestly, that doesn't sound okay, simply because one of the two of you doesn't sound okay with it. Have you ever told him how you feel?

I second Honeybea. Justified is amazing (esp. S2)

Most tips won't really apply to you (which is a good thing). The bulk of why dorming is hard and advice is doled out is because it's the first time those students have ever been away from home, shared a room, or had to balance freedom with responsibility. There's a lot of grappling with residual sexual immaturity,

Galaxy Quest. Silly, sure. But funnier and better written than I ever expected. Whenever I run across it, I watch.

Michelin is an actual name as well (when I was a child 30+ yrs ago I knew a little French girl name Michelin, pronounced mish-LENN).

Fair enough. We're discussing different things, then. I was strictly asking the OC for clarification on how the "it's not a choice" societal attitude made that specific poster feel pressured to "have to explain why I am the way I am" to heterosexuals... given that people are less likely to ask you to explain

Oh thank god, for a minute there I was all, wottttt, Hardy was in Prometheus??

Am I who you meant to reply to—? Because (while I agree with the content) nothing in your comment seems to relate to mine?

I completely agree on that front (i.e. that we don't need to be studying this scientifically and it could be harmful — although I don't expect we'll stop, and in an ideal world I'd like us to be open to investigating all sides of human nature).

I'm confused — why would you feel a greater need to justify something that is qualified as being innate? The presumption that people who are gay "choose" is actually what feeds the push for an explanation or further discussion on WHY that person chose ("were you abused? is it the devil?") in my experience.
