I don't think the V8 is much heavier, if older motor swaps are any indication. V8's have shorter cranks, blocks, and are all aluminum. Not to mention the weight of the turbos and all assorted hardware has been eliminated. Besides, it only has 400NM of torque, same as a stock 135i.

Here's mine. That's a Euro 540iT/6speed. Straight piped with only a small muffler at the back for appearances. Who knew such a noise could come from an old German V8, eh? :)

Then you, my friend, NEED to play Enthusia. I cannot begin to tell you just how amazing that physics engine really is. It's exactly what you want, which is GT3 level graphics and a physics engine unlike anything that has ever existed. It's on PS2. Highly highly recommend a steering wheel.

STI motors are reputably more reliable, however. I'm sure the larger displacement and less boost equal a much more reliable, tractable and better accelerating engine.
