I remember only about 10 years ago trying to explain why watching a movie in widescreen wasn’t actually chopping the top and bottom off of the image on an old 4:3 CRT.

Personally I’d rather wait for a proper explanation (as they did) instead of some half-hearted, meaningless ‘something happened and we don’t now what’ spin that tells the users nothing.

I’ll never understand how Valve, having the problem fixed within a couple hours, investigating what happened and telling the public the specifics without BS or pandering is still being considered ‘mishandling’.

That’s what a mod is. It modifies the game. Using a program to change the game to any extent is a mod whether it’s visual, audio, interface, core engine, texture, AI, gameplay, etc.

Sadly it’s not quite the same thing. On the PS3 it’s a system setting to filter/blur the entire screen. The PS4 copy is rendering the 3D elements at 1080P and filtering the textures, while the background elements are pre-filtered and saved to the game in this state.
