One tip which is not necessarily related: At the start of the day I write the top 3 tasks I need to get done before the end of the day. At the end of the day, I tear this list up and start fresh the next day. Having been issued 500 more business cards than I actually need, I just use those :)

@ matholio: my beautiful dark wood dining table fell victim to a pizza box too. You can apply a warm iron (no steam) over a lint-free cloth, for about 10 seconds a time, until the stain is gone. I have no idea how this works, but it took all of 5 minutes for my 1 year old stain to vanish.
