They technically can be as corrupt as corporations, but statistically, they are not. They have a bad rep, but corporations are actually found committing criminal fraud / corruption much more often than unions.

Also, while the fight scenes look cool in the prequel trilogy, they are basically just dances.  Most of the time they swing and its not even at the person.  They are in fact bad fights, but cool set pieces.  In the OT, they at least are swinging at each other.
