Holy. Shit. Incredible work, Mr Bauer.

Stuff like this is a daily reminder that I need to learn how to swim.

So does his wife...

This guy is an absolute hero and I’m happy everyone is ok but my mind keeps going back to a couple issues:

Is this where I’m supposed to post this and say “Millennial Theft Prevention System”?

I dunno who at Hyundai thought not wiring the back window and using a starter-only immobilizer was a good idea, but they just made their brand look like a big ol’ pile of crap. If I lose my key, I have to pay a few hundred to program a new fob, when some kid can just bust into it with a butterknife for nothing.

This, we rented some Hyundai’s and Kia’s back around 2009 they still had the same chipless keys and basic fobs that my mom's 1999 Elantra had a decade earlier.

Because they are cheap cars. Literally and figuratively.

Evidently yes on shitty Korean cars.

I have a 2011 Kia and I don’t have a key fob, an alarm, immobilizer, or any fancy stuff. Still have to lock/unlock my doors the old fashioned way.

You can start a car via a USB port?!

The thieves are breaking back windows and entering without opening any doors. Doing it this way prevents the factory alarm from sounding.

hey man, don’t come in here and ask pointed and important questions when an article doesn’t answer the most obvious one!

How do these not have some kind of immobilizer system? VW’s system from like 15 years ago required the keyfob be identified by three different computers before the car would start, and you definitely weren’t going anywhere without that happening. The ECU would randomly disable the fuel pump, the injectors, or spark.

Any explanation why the car would start without the key fob?

Apples to Oranges. I don’t think anyone else on the market other than Tesla even offers a solar roof, for example the one in this photo.

The idea of going to Tesla for a solar package when I could use a local company with 50 years in the business and costs a fraction of what Tesla is quoting even pre-price hike, while still using good quality, industry-proven panels, really doesn’t resonate with me at all.

They also have a habit of unilaterally murdering people, sometimes with little to no provocation.

I used to live in a city where the standard mode of cop driving was to cruise along at 25 and roll the lights, but not the siren, at every stop sign. They never seemed like they were in a hurry to get anywhere, they just didn’t feel like stopping.
