The WiiU transfer was a good compromise in theory. In practice, it was a mess. A (almost) 20 step process for something that should have been as simple as logging into a Nintendo account on a WiiU and hitting a “Download previous purchases” button.

No, it’s not Nintendo’s fault he’s purchased it multiple times. But it is absolutely Nintendo’s fault for being so willfully obtuse about online accounts and their digital ecosystem that we’re in 2018 and they still can’t get something so basic even close to correct.
It’s not in Nintendo’s DNA to be customer friendly.
Obviously Switch won’t be the last console ever but if Nintendo decides to no longer support a particular game (or loses a license) on their platform, you’ll never legally be able to play it on the go. Ever.
The entire idea behind the VC was that it was going to be iTunes for games (and was actually stated as such by…
They still need to create emulators for games to run on a subscription service so it’s not like they’re saving on any developmental costs. If anything, it gets more complex because you need to do all the underlying work to get the emulator right and figure how to host it/push it online. The only thing Nintendo is…
They could but they won’t.
Nintendo does it because their fans swallow it hook, line, and sinker every time. The fans are the ultimate apologists for anything Nintendo does. The evidence is clear as anything in this long thread. It only changes when people stop paying top dollar for good chocolate because they realize they got a steaming turd.
The difference is that online services, particularly from Nintendo have a habit of disappearing. So whenever this Switch service goes away, so does your ability to play the games. But I’ll still be playing my Wii VC games just fine.
Instead of paying $20 and playing the 4 games I want to play on VC for as long as my system lives, now I can pay $20 for all the games every year and only for as long as the service is active.
Yes. Yes. Yes. I was interested early one. The more I hear, the less I like. The inability to transfer software licenses cross-platform is a showstopper for me. My iTunes downloads aren’t tied to one device, neither are my kindle books. It makes little to no sense that 30 year old ROMS (paid for through a Nintendo…
If they’re going to offer cloud saves, have it at launch then. Or allow some full system backup. All this does is tell people to go modding the damn thing (which wouldn’t be a bad thing).
I’ve been playing just as long and have had save files corrupt on everything from old battery back up games to autosave files on my PS3. It happens. It’s not uncommon and to develop a game system without taking that into account in 2017 is a product development failure.
It’s 2017, not 1985. Not being able to manage your save files is a huge thing.
