Well Gurley just got $45M in guarantees over the summer. And then CJ Anderson shows up and totally submarines the narrative for paying Gurley so much.

“Came to its senses” or “utilized the full power of its antitrust protection to screw the business’s revenue generators out of a fair portion of said revenues”?
Who has lost more leverage in the past 2 years: MLB free agents or NFL RBs? Le’Veon is gonna end up with even shittier options somehow and Manny Machado is gonna get about half of what he would have commanded just 3 or so years ago.
When the 2nd edible kicks in...
I remember Marcus Fizer, Shawn Respert, Jacque Vaughn, Ryan Gomes, Cuttino Mobley, Bobby Phills and Tony Battie.
TOR/BOS/MTL all within a point of each other right now. The Bruins could easily drop into a WC spot, especially if Bergeron keeps getting hurt.
We could be looking at 4 or 5 Canadian teams making the playoffs this year and up until 2 weeks ago it looked like Buffalo was a playoff team and the Penguins were iffy. There’s still hope the Pens miss out, though their Goal Differential says otherwise. Montreal getting in and possibly facing Toronto in the first…
Things may look less rosy for the average position player, but how about those that were good enough for the majors at age 19? Like his #1 comparable player through Age 25?
And now...
pretty sure they owe Public Enemy some royalties
Because revenue often follows success, not the other way around. And (all) teams could be spending more money - but many would rather turn a larger profit than try to win for any sustained period of time. Thus payroll falling as a percentage of overall revenues.
I disagree on the “richest dominating the sport in the absence of a salary cap” narrative. In the past 10 years, 13 different team have made the World Series and that doesn’t include big* markets like Chicago (White Sox), Atlanta, Seattle, Toronto, Oakland, Baltimore/Washington, Miami, etc.
Yes, in the sense that their should be a salary floor or a set % of revenues that must be paid to the players in the form of salaries (a la the NBA). But the Player’s Union hasn’t ever asked for those things, so they’re mostly on the hook here. But that doesn’t mean the owners and GMs aren’t being tightwad shitheads…
Well, it speaks to the fact that these teams have $$$ to spend, but with the focus on young players and cost-controlled years, that $$$ isn’t going to the players in anywhere near the proportion it should. Free agents getting lucrative, long-term contracts that were likely to have some bad years at the end were just…

Haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere, so worth mentioning that their owner being a fuckhead doesn’t help. Most owners are fuckheads, true, but Lacob’s fuckheadedness really took off after the first title. Proximity and association with Silicon Valley dipshittery also plays into it. Kerr is great, though.
I’m too lazy to see if anyone else posted about this, but the use of “Over The Neptune / Mesh Gear Fox” at Halftime solidified my love for this site and the writer as much as anything since Emma Baccellieri used “Teenage Riot” in a DUAN post.
