It’s a goddamn nightmare post-Mussina. I couldn’t even believe my eyes looking at each year. The sheer number of 1st round picks who don’t even have B-R profiles because they never reached the majors is staggering.

Mike Oquist! I remember him for....something [pops Dubble Bubble into mouth]
I’m just having some fun with you here, but “I don’t see how the Caps can hope to beat a team that plays the way another team did in a game the Caps won 6-3" is a hell of a take.
Boston fans: “a tournament a tournament a tournament of lies!”
enjoying this Vegas team all year but I kind of don’t want them to win because it’s all just a little too neatly wrapped, you know. I love Marchessault, though.
McGwire hit 49 HRs as a rookie. Also, take a look at Hank Aaron’s career sometime. Lots of peaks in his mid-to-late 30s.
Oof.
I remember Kirt Manwaring. What I did not remember was he played for 13 seasons and finished his career in Colorado where in 1997 he put up a SLG of .276 despite 191 plate appearances at Coors Field.

Except they used to do it all the time in the Adams/Patrick/Norris/Smythe Divisions era. I know because I watched the Bruins get taken out by the Canadiens in the 1st round four years in a row back in the 80s. Granted they then beat them 5 of their next 6 playoff series but still. Yeah, that’s the whole point. The article isn’t blaming the teams as the original commenter insinuated. They are acting rationally given the current rules. Even the headline is not a judgment of the teams, just the overall situation which creates the incentive to keep worthy players in the minors.
“That big, grotesque loophole in the collective bargaining agreement is to blame for keeping Acuña in the minors for another month”
The knock on him has long been that he doesn’t play hard on defense, so yes.

There are 340+ teams in NCAA D1. Here’s a list of teams that have a National Championship and at least one more Final Four appearance in the last 10 years: UConn, Louisville, UNC, Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Kansas if you want to count 2008. Those teams have all choked at times. It’s built into the system.
Put a moderate amount of whiskey in a Moxie can and tell me if you can taste the difference.
I’ll just go ahead and get this out of the way:
