I thought it was just Olivia who went to New York, to get the brain gizmo.

I sort of agree.  My problem is that the the block between the Doctor and Amy & Rory feels arbitrary and there mostly to satisfy a desire by the actors to get full stop written off.  Despite the fact that the show has a history of worming its way around even the most insurmountable obstacles.  But you're right I wish

yeah, I seem to recall her mother muttering something about therapists when Amy's ranting at the Doctor.

Except they explicitly say 2012 a couple times.  Amy and Rory might be older, but they were chilling in the here and now.  Which as @avclub-377339ba5976ea5f48024cfb93bd2f6e:disqus said makes it a very lush February.  That or Amy's reading a paper from the future in the present just because.

Yeah, but you'd think Rose's first goodbye would preclude her from being brought back even more forcefully than this.

From Moffat's lips to Goodell's ears hopefully. I had to pause the episode and take an immediate screen cap when I saw that just because it was so left field.

@inle:twitter I think the future that Peter visited at the end of Season 3 no longer exists.
The comic isn't bad, but it's basically Peter's "excellent" adventures through time.@avclub-1343022fc4003e2cf16f0368302d86e8:disqus Yeah, the one written by Jackson

I didn't like it, but then again I freely admit that I wouldn't like any "final" goodbye for the Ponds, er Williams.

I doubt it, for one thing that time line no longer exists(?) and for the other they do show us that in the comic book thrown into the Fringe season 4 boxset.

But hasn't the show been doing that?  I'm thinking mostly of the Rachel Bilson episode, but I'd say they've tossed out plenty of details about The Mother and why she's perfect for Ted.

Trout's the first position player since Barry Bonds to have a WAR greater than 10, and given how video game Bonds' numbers were that should tell you just how jaw-dropping Trout has been this season. Even moreso than a guy doing well at three arbitrary, not all that informative stats.
