As a master of all art, I would like to say that immense pressure can help talented artists create great works. It can also not help them create great works. Sometimes, it has no effect at all whether they create great works or not.
Excellent post. I enjoy African-American literature, but didn't really get into Baldwin much, except for his pieces included in mandatory lit classes. I liked Hughes and Wright more, but always felt I missed out on not reading more of Baldwin. Thanks for reminding me of that.
