Yeah it seems kind of insane to imply that people today aren’t less sedentary than ever when literally every doctor, scientist, medical publication, hospital, school, etc. on the planet pretty much agrees that’s an unmitigated fact.

Often there are also logistical issues. If a nearly empty flight gets the plane where it needs to be for a subsequent fuller flight, they will still run it, so they don't run out of planes at a particular airport.

In a world where the standard rule is “every empty seat is a free for all after takeoff” there will be melee near first class as people try to nab the empty seats, especially on long-haul flights, resulting in fights and inevitable delays/diversions (beacuse you know we can’t have nice things).
