Also if his kids are being harassed by said 30-50 feral hogs, the last thing he’d want to do is open fire on them. Worst case scenario he accidentally causes a stampede and they injure his kids.

I realize that this is not the point, but if 30 - 50 feral hogs were in your backyard and you started shooting at them with any kind of firearm, wouldn’t they run immediately rather than stick around for 3 - 5 minutes, patiently waiting for you to gun them all down?
