Have you driven an X1? It’s not terrible, but hardly class-leading. I haven’t driven the CX 30 but I have driven a Mazda 3 hatch and it’s a peach.

The companies are just producing what the consumer wants - which apparently is said gargantuan vehicles. It’s not their problem that most people are wrong in what they actually need - but offering vehicles people don’t want will result in...going out of business.

The thing is that the $39K Mazda is fully loaded and the Bimmer is a base model with no options for the same price.  By the time you add the premium or M Sport package, the car gets much more expensive.

I’ll bet you get a lot more for your $CAD 39k in the GT-level Mazda than you do in the base level BMW.

Because the DOT is more concerned with allowing non-amber indicators and indicators that interrupt the function of a brake light, as well as mandating a manually activated high beam switch over the much more advanced system that they employ in the EU.

It definitely depends on one’s perspective. Having owned German cars and bikes and Japanese cars and bikes, to me this makes the Mazda sound like a great deal.
