No, it’s not 1985, but lots of cars have some issues by 95k, especially since most people don’t have a clue about car maintenance. That mileage is a pretty good indicator of reliability / durability, speaking as a form owner of some premium German brands.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Sounds like you also dealt with an incompetent dealer, which sadly, is all too common. Mine has been waaaay more reliable and cheaper to own than the Mini Cooper S that preceded it. Wifey bought a 500S and it’s been pretty solid also.

I rented a couple of these back in the day. They weren’t anywhere near as bad as armchair peanut gallery pundits would have you believe. They were roomy and drove ok. Not great, not horrible.

I hear you, but platform sharing is the reality of virtually every major brand today. VAG shares everything: A Lambo Urus is a rebodied Audi Q8 with a louder exhaust, an E-Tron GT is a Taycan underneath. Many Lexuses are fancier Toyotas, Rolls Royces are BMWs underneath, etc etc.

78k on my ‘14 Abarth bought new, daily driven, and only very minor issues to report. Mostly wear and tear items replaced so far; replaced two mirror flag trims and a TPM sensor. Also the skirts don’t come off per se; they come unglued at the top, and a quick application of liquid nails fixed the problem permanently.…
