i also have a 09 ram with the 5.7. I pulled a 7k lbs (columbus ga to killeen tx) uhaul with it and only got about 11mpg. And the current 5.7 has almost twice the power. the 09 is 390hp/407tq , the 99 5.2 had 240hp/unsure what the tq was.

i pulled a 6000lbs uhual trailer from NC to El Paso in my 99 Ram (5.2L), averaged 11 mpg over the trip. So yeah, this is pretty pathetic.
