We have one of those, too! It DOES make the best waffles ever. We've had it for years (it was a gift to my daughter), the bow fell off, the outside is a little stained and grimy, but it keeps turning out perfect waffles, so I'm keeping it.

I believe the overreaction was an effort to demonstrate they were better-prepared for ebola than Texas was. Not saying it was the right thing to do, of course, just imagining that is why they came on so heavy-handed. A bunch of harrumphing, really, but I can see how it happened.

That last point is a very good one. There is nothing worse for workplace morale than watching a malingerer get away with it while everyone else is busting their asses. And the boss who lets them get over, consistently.
