I have a friend with whom i’ve never been in a car with him driving, when he wasn’t pulled over. One time he was our DD, and the cop wouldn’t shut up until i leaned over and stood up for Friend. He claimed Friend had run a stop sign; i know full well Friend was being SUPER careful to come to a complete stop and look

It’s not the science that makes us that way. It’s the draconian sick leave and vacation policies :(

Professional scientist, yes. Mad? Not usually.

Disgruntled, maybe ;)

Sign me up for your benevolent dictatorship.

Yeah, i’m trying to find sympathy and/or empathy for my coworker who belittles me constantly, finding fault with basically every thing i say. And that’s not hyperbole. If i state a fact in front of him (“The hill as you turn into work scares me because of the accident i witnessed there.”) he has to contradict me.

I don’t know about washing too much. My clothes are filthy after work - silica, sodium bicarb, ethanol, methylene chloride (when it gets through my lab coat which is rare but when it does HOO BOY does it leave a nasty ring of residue), etc, plus the active pharmaceutical compounds themselves all build up over time.

THANK YOU.

I post this all the time; i’m so sick of defending my honor. I’m glad at least one other person gets that those of us working for big, medium, small pharma, biotech, CROs, CMOs, etc etc, actually WANT to do our best. In order to pull off the sort of conspiracy these people envision, every last one of us

OMG yes this. I thought maybe it was code for some new camera and i hadn’t heard of it because i haven’t watched cable tv in over a decade. The thought of an actual owl made me twitterpated.

I would go see Superb Owl. I would pay MONEY to hang out with Superb Owl.

Yup, camping is still magic. Even at my family’s cabin, which is heated, sometimes i’ll sleep on the screen porch when it’s 40F outside, under down quilts and wool Hudson Bay blankets piled 4 or 6 deep. Best nights of sleep i think i’ve ever gotten in my life.

Had. This was 10 years ago. As mentioned above, i’ve processed it, learned from it, and moved on :)

Oh gods i feel your pain. I had a job that required me to be there at 5:30 for 2 years. It honestly broke me of the ability to wake up early for more than a one-off here and there. Even now, 3 years later, i struggle to get into work by 8:30 in a building full of 7:30-8 am arrivers. Mornings just honestly HURT now in

Actually after an afternoon of kicking ass and taking names at work, i processed it and no longer am upset. I had those moments of “oh gods did that really happen and did i really repress them for a decade???” during lunch, but nothing like a 3.5 hour marathon in lab purifying a highly toxic cancer compound that

The whole name thing confuses me profoundly as well. I was adopted by my stepdad when i was 8, so i’ve already changed my name once. And my dad’s legal name is actually HIS step dad’s name. So i’m already 2 name changes away from my biological surname. So, the idea of changing my name again actually is more enticing

She was one of my favorite characters to hate in Freaks and Geeks.

I’ve never seen her in anything else.

I might be a bit behind the times.

It’s not just sexual harassers. I had a full-on workplace bully a few jobs ago, and my boss, his supervisor, and HR all encouraged me to stop defending myself verbally and agree with him more.

We were banned from being in the same building alone together, because the man had made death threats against me, but i was

Perhaps people would benefit from assigning a time block to the big projects. Other commenters mentioned that banging out a bunch of small tasks can give a boost to incentive to the big tasks. If the more intimidating objectives require larger blocks of time anyway, this could build upon itself?

Example: My to-do list

I’ve lived daytrip distance from NYC since 1998. I avoid it because, while it has a decent amount of history and culture, there are dozens of other cities and rural areas that have history and culture too. Those are all cheaper, have less concrete, more visible sky, less pollution, fewer human beings, and basically

“Trump consistently brags about having done no polling”

And people want to vote for a man who brags BEFORE the election that he basically will not do what the people want? How is that REMOTELY an electable platform??

I am so horrified by this entire debacle i have nightmares. Literally, jolted awake at 3 am by the

Thank you so much for covering this entire morass. I follow Wakefield (and a bunch of other pseudoscience misdirection and rebuttal) over at Orac’s blog (Respectful Insolence http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/). But to have it appear in more mainstream and less “nerdy science news for nerdy scientists” warms the

You reminded me i haven’t had sushi in over a month.

I, and a locally owned business i would like to flourish, both thank you :)
