They still have to pay a cut to all the services that have been distributing the film online. Maybe not as large of a chunk as what the theaters would take but all the various online services aren't playing the film for free.

This article is incorrect about the movie "breaking even" because it made $46 million. For a Hollywood film to break even it needs to earn roughly 2.5x the negative production cost. The Interview had a $44 million budget, so to reach the black it would need to earn around $110 million.

The Russo Brothers have directed over 50 episodes of Community, this homecoming is welcome news.
