I think the context of the remark matters, which isn’t present in the article... there’s a big difference between him saying it as he vented when asked by Cecilia about how people continued to hold his past against him, and a person saying that while actively engaged in conduct that would invoke criticism.

Eh, it stands to reason that given there have been reports of black couples having babies with decidedly white features...
