Are there actual large space battles in this game? I see those screenshots, but then gameplay videos and people talking about it strongly suggest otherwise.

Achievements came out before trophies, and there are no standardized values for them beyond you have to have at least 1000 points for a release. Though this has changed from the past as far as how many points per game. Some very rare/hard to get achievements are worth 1 Gamerscore... because reasons.
