I would add to the “distractions” you mention the idea sold that YOU could be the privileged/rich/elite if you work “hard enough” when in reality there isn’t enough economic mobility to allow the poor to realize that dream.

This is not true. There are sensors for measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, and even white-blood cell counts without cuffs or blood-draws. They will be coming to medical devices in the next 3-5 years and maybe to consumer electronics shortly after if they can be miniaturized and mass produced at cost.

This is actually being done by a company called Basil Leaf Technologies who were one of the finalists in Qualcomm’s Tricoder X-prize. The sensors do exist and will be incorporated into diagnostic devices in the next 3-5 years but they probably won’t be miniturized into a consumer watch in that time frame.

Yeah, the show is colliding with the business aspects. 13 episodes instead of 20 to finish it off is pretty difficult to tie up all the story lines. I assume next week the white-walker/winter story will end and last season is just about battle for the “main-land”
