I am due for a new phone in two months. I was seriously considering giving WP7 a shot over android cuz I am REAALLLLY into Windows 7 the OS but more I read it seems WP7 is a fail, for now.

I would say rather than aiming to cripple the older hardware, the new software Apple releases aims to maximize the potential of their new hardware which at times can mean a worst experience for the older hardware running the new software.
