Same, I glanced at a few negative headlines just before diving into the show and was delighted to realize by episode 2 and 3 that my criticisms weren't nearly as harsh as that of the reviewers.

Maria actually knows how to command the situation—if he'd tried to give Angie the lap dance I assume Maria would have intervened.
I'm not complaining either—although it was indeed an unusual situation to be watching such an elaborate strip tease with the sneaking fear that at any moment someone might be shot…
You didn't think she was in real danger? What about this show's history made you think Judy King couldn't be thrown off a roof during a riot??
Since the video was posted to MCC's twitter account I'd assume the guards and MCC inner circle would definitely see it—and be the only people seeing it. Anyone following MCC on twitter would almost certainly NOT be inclined to share such a tweet.
If I were myself in that situation and a gun landed in front of me there's no chance that I would even consider picking it up. I'd back away from it and wait to see what murderess stepped forward.
I assumed some time lapsed from her initiation scene to the party and that she rose in the ranks some off camera.
I agree with your characterization of her but I don't think it's annoying. The show has established that she was a smart kid with a lot of potential that Aleyda effectively squandered by being a hopelessly bad mom.
I don't understand your point. If they look like prisoners when they're "deglamorized" (i.e. aren't wearing makeup and have unstyled hair) then what's the difference between them and the people in the credits? I see no disconnect. Anyone would look glamorous with a professional hair and makeup team.
They're using Boo to voice the perspective that his actions are unforgivable but Pennsatucky as a character may forgive him whether we as an audience are ever able to. It's gross but I buy it.
The same reason people have pictures on their desks or personal items in their offices at all. I have anything and everything in my desk at work. It would make more sense if he were a counselor or someone who would have a reason to share something personal about themselves with an inmate as a way to connect, but it…
There's no mystery about her descent into criminality. She cut off her husband's penis, killed a cop, and murdered a handful of other people!
You know that all cameras have the potential to be held vertically or horizontally right?
He started a prison fight where he forced Suzanne to beat someone almost to death. For the victim of that fight to be the one to induce his stroke seems like the circle of life to me. Plus he seemed awfully casual while recovering from his leg wound; from his conversation about torture he obviously didn't see being…
SOTD worked wonderfully over the end credits. Hyped me up for another episode!
I saw Nurse Sophia as a strategic plot choice, actually. Depending on how the riot plays out there could be serious consequences to every inmate and Sophia has already been through so much recently. Taking her out of the mix and putting her with a staff member who can vouch for her assistance in a time of crisis is…
Friday is a classic movie; that joke has been around for 20+ years for people who have actually seen it. That's not an example of memes erupting from a virtually unknown source.
The show seemed dedicated to setting these guards up as villains last season so much so that it was almost unbearable to watch; it's definitely odd to see them framed sympathetically now.
I don't know that creating tablescapes has anything to do with his sexuality; I don't see at as a reflection of masculinity in any way, just a mockable hobby on par with being a stage magician or something. I can absolutely imagine a season 1 where a similar reveal could have been made about Caputo or Healy.
I think a reasonable solution would be simply to note at the start of the review that it contains information about later episodes as revealed through trailers, press, etc. I don't follow press for the show and didn't watch the trailer or teasers they released. I watched half the season before I started looking at…
