Agreed! Still one of the most fun cars I've driven. Mine had the optional 4-wheel steering. That thing was an absolute blast to toss around.

I like the way VW gets around it. You have to push down on the gear stick then shift it into 1 to get reverse. Otherwise it's just regular forward gears.

My daily is a 5-speed 1.8t. It's a great gearbox for beginners. Good feel. The car I learned on, a 1989 Honda Prelude, was a lot less forgiving.

Stalling at the lights. It can happen to anyone. Even if the recovery is quick, it's still pretty embarrassing.
