That would mean a Judd Apatow film which doesn’t amuse you (fitfully) for the first half, before turning into a stern lecture on the sanctity of a two-parent family and the importance of personal responsibility. His worldview is ultimately as conservative as Dennis Prager’s – only with dick-and-cum jokes.

Agreed and seconded. Risk getting sick – for what? So I get the Full Cinema Experience of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’? Fuck that shit.

When Lee Daniels was smoking crack, he at least had an excuse for being as monumentally stupid as he is.

Get farked.

Now that’s a book I’d rush out to buy.

Veena Sud is such a monumentally terrible director, it kind of beggars belief. Pacing, blocking, performances . . . she just can’t do any of it very well. The lighting is flat and dead, and the final twist (which my wife and I both guessed ten minutes in) makes absolutely zero sense when you think about it for more

No Payne, more Will Sharpe? I call that a win-win.

“...maturity, in life and art, is overrated...”

I have seen ‘The Future’. It was murder.

ha. I’ll take that.

She looks goofy; she wasn’t. I only met her once – in 2001 – but she was poised, amused, elegant. (And still beautiful, at 63.) Never goofy.

100% agree. But I also think he should be in everything.

I have no idea what this means. Though I feel obliged to point out the obvious fact that those words are not, in fact, synonyms.

Jesus Christ. Can we stop judging this work – which feels thoughtful, not over-thought, and considered, not calculated – on our assumptions about its maker? I don’t believe there’s any ‘board meetings’ here, just a woman with the talent and, yes, the contacts and resources to do whatever the fuck she wants, on her own

This deserves a hell of a lot better than a B+.

I guess I’ll give it a shot sometime. But considering people keep telling me about AMAZING NEW SHIT I HAVE TO SEE RIGHT NOW, that revisit might take a while.

I agree. I was bitterly disappointed at the end of season one – which I loved – when I realised there wouldn’t be a conclusion, only a (kind-of) cliffhanger. I never even got through season two.

Yes. Those who it hits (and I count myself among them: I think it’s a small masterpiece), it hits hard indeed.

a skill she presumably honed directing episodes of the similarly pitched Killing Eve
