Were it not for the headline, there’s no way I would have picked that as Billy Joel.

He’s certainly happy about it.

In fairness, that is infuriating.

It’s probably safe to say that hearing this and ‘My Life in the Bush of Ghosts’ back in 1983 altered the entire trajectory of my life.

Couldn’t agree more. And speaking as someone who sat through most of the Venice competition lineup, ‘Joker’ was indeed the best film in it.

It gives me no pleasure to say it. ‘The Invention of Solitude’, ‘The New York Trilogy’ and ‘In the Country of Last Things’ were all important reading experiences for me. And I enjoyed ‘Leviathan’ and ‘The Music of Chance’ a lot. I remember a damning review in the Independent of ‘Timbuktu’ (‘Never before in the history

I’ve never seen such a sudden and catastrophic exhaustion of talent.”

(I’m not talking about the film. Just in general.)

I hope he dies first.

That guy’s great.

Yep. But played to perfection by Mr Gleeson.

I think the scene where Paddington introduces his prison buddies to the Browns was the hardest I laughed all that year.

After the mounting abominations of Knight of Cups, To the Wonder and Song to Song, how can that name possibly be regarded as a hallmark of quality?

It’s absolutely not.

Oh, man. I feel your pain.

A pretty strong candidate for Greatest Living Englishman. I’m convinced there’s an invisible line, and he and David Attenborough are at one end of it, and Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nigel Farage are at the other.

For succinctness, I can’t beat the take of a colleague, after walking out of that press screening at Toronto FF, when it premiered: ‘It’s an hysterical Short Cuts for morons.’ (Though ‘Everybody in Magnolia is acting so hard.’ comes pretty close.)

Brick Tamland notwithstanding (‘I love lamp!’), Serious Actor Steve Carell is better in ‘Foxcatcher’ than Comedy Steve Carell ever was.

The effect is slightly diminished by the fact that the Fallon audience clearly has no idea that these aren’t the real ‘Should I Stay...’ lyrics.

Thanks for letting us know.
