I am listening to Black Messiah right now and...THIS is the best album of the year. Hands down. Everything about it. I wish I could just break down why, but I can't. It's just perfection.

That line made me think of the 100,000 damn times I have argued on this site about how intentions don't matter if you consistently do the wrong thing. Your intention can only be pure once (if that); after that it's willful ignorance.

This is a great piece. One thing I will say, in my experience has someone who is half white and half brown, is that the same system that keeps people of color "in their place" after all of these years is the same one that blinds a lot of white people who mean well. Is this an excuse for their behavior? No, maybe not,

I don't think anyone needs to be rewarded for being baseline decent human being. That's its own reward. I also appreciate why this author is annoyed by white people who make a big show out of not being racist just to further their own careers or polish their own self image or worse, to deny that racism is even a

As a white person, I was wondering why the author didn't answer those questions, but then I realized that it's not their job to tell me how to be a decent human being. After all, it's not "positive behaviors" us good white people want to be congratulated for; we expect to be patted on the back for treating black

Not talk about it. You can just do the right thing without telling everyone. That's not only for issues of racism, it's also just a general rule. You shouldn't need positive reinforcement for being a decent person. Just be one.

NOW THIS IS A WELL WRITTEN PIECE. No pandering, thoughtful, nice diction.

I lost my virginity at 16 to a dude who had a glow in the dark dick piercing. It was like a beacon, guiding me home.

I'm a Delta, and I've been sighing heavily over this for the past 3 days. Anyway, hey there D9 sister. *waves*

Surprised that Delta Sigma Theta have taken this position and not reversed. NOT surprised that the Alpha Phi Alpha men are wearing colors and letters — they have a legacy to uphold and also they're awesome.

Seriously!!!

No, I agree with you. I would even take it a step further and say that when the Deltas do backtrack the reason they provide should be, "We decided to check ourselves after realizing we are now more siddity than the AKAs."

Am I bad for thinking that the Deltas are going to go back on their statement now solely for that reason?

Lol. Damn Deltas, how you gonna let the AKAs show you up like this? Never before would I have thought the Deltas would be more siddity than the AKAs.

I'm a member of an NPC sorority, not an NPHC organization, but I will provide the reasons most people in Greek life see NPHC as distinctly different from NPC/IFC (same as NPC/IFC organizations are not comparable to academic fraternities):

I'm loving all this old fashioned black culture references in this thread

I have a Facebook friend who is a member of my ex's family, an older member as in she "came out" in the 50s. Bless her little heart but she pulls out those Jack and Jill photos of her dance and all of her gatherings all-the-time. TBT is every day. I guess it was a really special time for her.

I'm really surprised at this. These organizations (as far as I know) are filled with successful professionals. I would think participation while wearing their letters would lift the spirits of all those protesting, as in, the issue goes beyond respectability politics and affects everyone!

I feel like I never see or hear anything about minority Greek organizations—it's a little bizarre that they would come up in the context of one of them wanting to remain unconnected to political protests that you think would work in their members' interests...
