Before everyone starts jumping all over this (maybe too late, I guess): Drew McWeeny over at HitFix pointed out that Ebert was a bit of a bawdy person, and considering this is about his time writing Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls – certainly back when that description fit him better – this might be a good fit.

Every once in a while I come back here as a pilgrimage.

Woohoo! Just like med school!

This makes me happy. Thank you for your wiki-sleuthing!

Apparently he was a member of the band that did the title themes to the
second and third Marathon games. Doesn't quite ruin Marathon for me, but still ew.

This really was a surprisingly positive outcome from an event that was almost wrecked. When I was a kid and read/watched/played/consumed science fiction (or even just science-related media), I always had this image in my mind of the grown-up-but-still-kinda-dorky community that had to exist out there that wrote and

Listen, it's not that I'm against 4x3, but I find it heavily overrepresented in the header image community and I want to balance it out. Everyone is like "Ooh, we’re going to use this header image because it's not widescreen aspect ratio."

16x9 is the No Award of header images.

Halo. I had a military- and gun-obsessed friend in middle school who would not shut up about Halo, and that really turned me off from it. I already wasn't a big fan of shooters, but the way I'd heard it described as a fetishized collection of guns and space marines was incredibly boring. But I had a few friends who

It's not too late to buy the rights to the eight-minute fight scene from They Live and release it as Urban Champion.

I have a SLIS professor who still has a Second Life installer on their desktop that's visible whenever they're setting up Powerpoint. We can all be glad everyone collectively came to their senses and didn't sink too many resources into it.

"Damn, that hundred dollars could've bought me ONE GALLON OF GAS."

Can we get a supercut of post-ending teasers that never came to fruition? It would be an monument to misdirected ambition.

This is a really neat idea! I understand why you're sticking with the shooter du jour for a month for the sake of getting a solid base, but I wonder if you would consider popping over to other shooters once in a while to see how the skills translate? It would be a hilarious and terrible twist if you became really good

That's really overstating how much auto-aim matters. That can ease some of the precision issues, but it won't help with getting a sense of place or becoming comfortable moving and looking at the same time. People who play games all the time take those basic skills for granted, but they can be difficult for

My favorite honest name was an atrocious Xbox Live user named "Block and Report."

I once played a free online shooter where a player used a horrific bloody meat creature abomination skin and set their name to "Hillary Rodham Clinton." I'm sure it was supposed to be spiteful and nasty, but it was too bizarre to be offensive.

I really like the shorter sequence once. You can get a more direct look at the editing and composition of individual shots if you remember them well enough, and sometimes, you can actually make out some images based on how scenes were shot.
