Yeah, but “Reagan” isn’t a generic term for politician. That was a specific person... the President.  She didn’t single out a person.  She made a generic statement.  That’s considerably different.

And had she wrote something specific about a known politician, it would have warranted a response.  This wasn’t yelling “fire”.  This was yelling “all this stuff should burn”.  There’s a distinct difference.

And if she had said “I’m going to commit this specific violent act on this specific violent location at this specific violent time” I’d think DHS’s response would be insufficient too.

This situation didn’t warrant anything more meaningful.

Yep. Because it’s a generic threat and meaningless. Furthermore, you can 100% trace back the source to exactly the sequence of events. Supreme Court nullifies RvW, she complains about it, end of story.  There’s no mystery here.

The tweet has zero specifics. It doesn’t say which buildings, a time the burning is supposed to happen, it doesn’t identify who is going to do the burning, it doesn’t mention method, time, or target for slaughter. There are literally no actionable items from that tweet. Absent some sort of collaborator information,

The court completely ignored the establishment clause so.... yes, yes we are.

This has always been the case. It is their job to investigate you and make sure that you aren’t actually going to burn anything down.

Yeah, but that’s been true since 14 seconds after Social Security passed into law.

Agree to disagree.  You’re assuming the Chinese car company needs to make a profit.  It doesn’t.  China has shown a great propensity for losing money to break into a market.

Basically Social Security taxes at maxed at $147,000 income. That means on every dollar you make up to $147,000, you’re paying 6.2 pennies to the government for SS and your employer is paying 6.2 pennies to the government for SS. Every dollar you make from the $147,001-th buck and beyond? Neither you nor your employer

Especially if it could be had for a bargain. A Chinese Fit for, say $12k? Hell yeah! So what if it’s a POS? As long as it lasts 3-5 years, at that price it can be essentially disposable.

One, Manchin has already stated he’s running again in 2024 and doing so as a Democrat (oddly at a private funding event by a known Republican fundraiser).

Manchin has gone on record as being for the return of the Standing Filibuster. That’d be a step (pardon the inadvertent pun) in the right direction.

Good.  Waste of paper and ink.  The website has all the information you need anyway.

It takes all of 10 minutes of work to “fix” Social Security and Medicare. Apply the taxes (and benefits!) up to $500k of income and index to inflation. Problem solved.  Basically forever (well, the next 75ish years, which in policy terms is basically ‘forever’).

Good on you President Biden! This is what you should be doing with your office! You have to lead by signaling intent, then put pressure on Congress to do the right thing. The ball is ultimately in Congress’s court, but the Presidency can be a powerful tool for raising the issue and putting light on what needs to be

We buy goods all the time from China without blinking an eye. Every computer, tablet, and phone has at least some part from there. Cheap blenders and coffee makers have won the market. Hell, even the guitar industry, where consumers are HYPER aware of the country of origin of their products, makes most of its bones on

I’m not afraid the plane will fall out of the air. I’m afraid that I’m locked in a tube and I can’t leave no matter what.

Look, don’t get mad at me because you don’t understand basic fucking geography!
