I feel like what usually happens with these articles is a lot of experts all end up saying the same person or thing and you end up with a small handful of interesting answers, and many more repeat ones. Heck as soon as I saw the article I thought “Mengele” and I’m no ethicist/historian. It’s just that people talk

They didn’t make the loan denial more “black and white” because it is illegal to deny a loan because of race.   A law which doesn’t stop loan officers or banks from coming up with other reasons for denial.  That’s how it has historically been done, and that is what the show is portraying.

Uh-oh. We’ve got one of those “I don’t see color!!1!”/”You must be the real racist since you keep talking about racism!!!!” racists.

You should probably not watch this show. It’s going to be way above your knuckle-dragging IQ.

(Or maybe you should watch the show so that the pew pew kablam pow action scenes will draw in

While lack of income may make it easier for the bank manager to deny the loan, the legacy of the real world USA would suggest that we cannot ignore the dynamics race plays in the interaction (and I felt the subtext of the scene supported Germain’s interpretation).

Even if the banker himself is not explicitly denying

Every problem is caused by withholding the truth, and is resolved by just talking and listening - whether it’s amongst the Lane-Kents, journalism, Lana and Sarah, Jordan and his bully, or even just being honest with yourself about what your wants/motives are.

Fans being upset because the show didn’t do what they decided in their heads what it should do. Sigh. Unsurprising but also unpleasant.

I’m gonna throw your “This isn’t the comics” response to others right back at you. Why does Sam need Steve’s super soldier-ness? That’s a very comics thing. Trust the MCU writers to create a new type of Captain America who has his own strengths, weaknesses, and struggles. He shouldn’t be Steve But Black And With Wings.

“Listen, I’m as tired as everyone else of identity politics being dragged into every little discussion, but can I take a moment to drag identity politics into this discussion? People get awfully hyperbolic about this stuff; I sure hope a bloodthirsty mob doesn’t drag me out into the street and tear me apart for saying

“Nice straw man you have there.”

One reviewer liked a tv show with a black lead more than I did, which means all AV Club is being reverse racist, and also patronizing black art.

Ah, yes, the ole passive aggressive preface of: “I’m not racist. I voted for Obama twice, I have black friends, BUT,” followed by
incredibly racist and tone deaf remarks.

There’s nothing like watching someone trip over themselves apologizing for an opinion that they didn’t need to share in the first place.

This also really highlights Filoni’s fatal flaw. He knows how to write a short form kids’ show with a little depth, but now that we’re in live action, he can’t seem to gauge what truly needs more time to play than would be given him in few 22min cartoons”

I’m curious as to what makes you think ANY Star Wars material (animation, comics, novels, live action, etc) is NOT intended for children?  Just because adults enjoy it, doesn’t make it an adult product.

Grogu. I’m full on board with Baby Grogu.

I had to read that twice cause I got confused too. Thought there was an actual speedster in the film for a second.

Technically, Cheeta became a speedster after she and Zoom joined forces and he taught her to overcome her limits.

Seconded

Have you given these episodes a shot? I mean you’re entitled to your opinion obviously but lets not pretend that Star Wars wasn’t always a big toy thing.

This is shot as a tense Western with a lot of silent scenes, which is a rarity.
