She she got the hamster to help her deal with the stress of having had a non-cancerous lump removed. That doesn’t say “severe emotional issues“ to me.

If she truly is that mentally disturbed, then she should not be allowed to have an animal unsupervised. You don’t give an emotional support animal to someone who’s likely to kill it. Some person’s emotional needs aren’t more important than an animal’s life.

Nope, an ESA is useless if the person has no bond to it and is willing to kill it when it becomes a minor inconvenience. People who genuinely require an ESA to function by and large are extremely bonded to their given animal and killing it is the last thing they’d do.

But it wouldn’t just be decreased inhibition and increased suggestibility. It would have to also be a severe disregard for animal life,  vastly decreased problem solving skills, and an inability to make competent decisions while caring for a pet.

Yep. Animal shelter worker here. Our officers occasionally pick up loose, abandoned, forgotten, or prohibited animals from the airport. That was an option here.

That’s what I think. I was horrified by this. It’s unfamothamble that someone would just flush their pet down the toilet because someone “allegedly” told them to do it. No rational person would do that. There’s something not right here.

That’s what kills me. She really thinks describing how terrified her pet was before she killed it is going to make people feel bad for HER.

And even if they did, so fucking what? Someone suggesting you should behave an abominably cruel manner doesn’t give you an excuse to do it.

What’s insane is that she must have called the paper with the story. How did she not realize that this made her look like a monster?

And I’d bet good money she’s already purchased the next animal that she’ll kill the moment it becomes inconvenient.

Right?! Airlines are awful, but I seriously can’t fathom anyone in their right mind suggesting this woman kill her pet.

This story is as baffling as it is horrifying. This woman, by her own admission, chose to cruelly kill her pet. But she claims someone else suggested that she do it, and she feels really bad about it, so she’s certain she’s the real victim here.

Yeah no, this is not on Spirit. This woman has something seriously wrong with her if she actually flushed a living creature down a toilet, there were many, many other options. Jesus fucking christ.
