Cross training is good for learning new skills that enable upward mobility. It also helps reduce repetitive stress injuries and mental burnout. Most employees I work with prefer to cross train.

Considering that it’s pointless security theater, yes. And look at some of the longer wait times - nearly 4 hours. That means it takes as long to stand in line to get into the gate area as it does to fly across the country.
