It’s a reboot of a second-tier open world crime franchise that steers away from the one thing that set the franchise apart in the first place (wacky, over-the-top irreverence).

There are two ways to interpret your comment:
And this is why SE is swimming in debt and had to sell off their IPs, meanwhile their insane CEO is all “let’s gamble company money and what little goodwill we have from fans on NFT Blockchain garbage durrhurhurhur”
With the benefit of hindsight, I think Hironobu Sakaguchi probably made the right move when he just up…
Maybe I’m just getting old and soft, but my mind went to all the devs and team members who actually probably worked very hard on this game and were likely to some degree mismanaged. Hopefully they work on enough not to have this kind of thing affect them too much, but I’m sure it can’t be great for morale.
Deplatforming works
It’s a shame so many innocent people are affected, but powerful shitheads suffering consequences doesn’t happen enough.
It would be even better if it made you play it yourself.

Hey.
It’s for the players more than any continuity. There are still a lot of male gamers who refuse to play female characters and likely wouldn’t purchase the game if they didn’t have the option to be male. By providing a choice, they can appeal to a wider audience in terms of sales.
Whatever you do, DO NOT start with AC 1. Most people I know that never got into the AC series, cite AC 1 as their reason.
I wonder if they have a Mr Resetti analogue for that.
