This is a reasonable explanation on its face, but I still don’t think you can justify the reliance on contract workers, let alone how contract workers are treated by the industry.

This is fairly standard for competitive multiplayer games, but yeah it can be daunting keeping up with everything. Though overwatch in general doesn’t have as much stuff to keep track of as MOBAs and stuff like that

Y’all seriously couldn’t link to the full patch notes?

AND she was the only woman nominated! Great stuff.

That’s easier said than done, though. Games on the scale of Morrowind take far more effort and money than they did in the 90s, because technology has progressed faster than revenue. Not to mention how tons of games only exist because they utilize third party tools and engines, and developers only have so much control

Forget about the triple A space—there are tons of live service games which might qualify as double or single A (the absurdity is not lost on me) that will have a hard time with preservation. Games which have moved beyond indie, and spend a fair amount of money on new content and maintenance, but might not have the

The convenience of never having to switch discs/carts/etc. converted me to digital a long time ago. But I do occasionally miss the occasional cash infusions from when I sold physical games lol

Yeah, the last time they did the vouchers, they added new games fairly regularly

I mean, yeah

Man, I am so jealous of Xbox owners. (My PC can't game.) I suppose this feeling will only continue as Arkane and Bethesda games come out... *sigh*

I’m not entirely surprised. They were putting tons of money and effort into it, reworking existing heroes and creating exclusive ones for mobile among other things... I can imagine they weren't getting the payoff for all the money they spent.

Kotaku’s autoplay is out of control, I’ve had random Kotaku videos play from off-screen at least three times today!

Oh wow, totally didn't expect an in depth Overwatch article on Kotaku these days! As a Mercy main, I approve, there's great advice here!

This sucks. Gene Park and company were some of the best reviewers and interviewers in the industry, and they had some good editorial pieces too. Not to mention our old friend Nathan Grayson! ☹️

But this isn't at the organization overall, this is within each team/group—many of which are small enough that it's not unusual that everyone is doing a great job.

It’s a story because it has a large portion of a community talking about it.

And of course the focus is going to be on the hack instead of the poor security

I kinda wish I could have multiple FYPs, each with a different set of topics.

The FTC doesn’t need to prove that MS will achieve dominance, they just need to show that the merger will reduce competition/innovation/etc. in the broader industry. And I can see an argument that removing one of the largest third party publishers is a bigger issue than the merger itself, considering the continued
