I suggest a bias only because the trend is rather odd. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many critics mention multiple flaws or problems with a major studio’s animation, but then entirely excuse those problems because it’s a new style/medium/etc. for them.

I mean, it’s fine if that’s how the various reviews read to you, but that’s not how they sound to me.

Some of the best writing, voice acting, and direction in the genre, IMO. A masterful translation and a thrilling story. Most cutscenes are voiced.

I agree that there are some good things! I’d love to see a more fully realized version of this style—though part of me wonders if part of the problem was how they tried to translate Ghibli’s 2D style into 3D more or less directly.

If this was a smaller studio with a less storied history, I might agree. But I have higher expectations than that from Studio Ghibli.

Everyone’s saying the animation is “a good first try,” but would we say that about any other studio? I feel like there’s a lot of Ghibli bias making people way more forgiving than they should be. First attempt at CGI or not, this does not look good.

The game seems rather confused about its tone, but I’m still tentatively excited. The combat looked great and hopefully the rest of it holds up as well; I’m praying the radio silence from THQ and the devs was a good thing.

I think they’re trying to establish “Xbox Series” as the branding for their consoles. They want to make Xbox Microsoft’s brand for all gaming (Xbox Live, Game Pass, Xbox Game Bar in Windows, etc...) instead of being mostly associated with their consoles.

I get that they wanted to start the Xbox “Series,” with different letters in the future denoting different features... But did they really have to start with the exact same letters as the XB0 line? Especially when those two letters sound really similar? lol

I mean, I agree, but that doesn’t absolve them of responsibility. They’re one of the biggest development studios in the world, and they had the resources and time to do it right.

I agree that they pulled that character off well, but almost every other example of a Trans person in the game (that I’ve seen so far) is heavily sexualized with little else. There’re a few lore entries expanding on things,  but it’s still not proportionate.
