Yep, this is the take. I’m disappointed that journalists and critics weren’t more skeptical from the jump, including Kotaku. When other publishers/developers failed to send out codes for multiple platforms, there were articles asking why that was the case. Should have happened here, as well.

Designers being completely out of touch, I think. Did you see the interview where the lead designer originally wanted it to be even bigger?

VFX is horrible, but a lot of the other art/tech labor seems to be pretty good, according to my cinematographer friend.

The VFX industry is its own variety of fucked up, though. The stuff they go through is absurd.

ONE MORE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK

anyone else think it’s fucking weird that they handed out monopoly money that employees were supposed to REDEEM for bonuses

okay but that still doesn’t answer why they let you adjust aspects of a penis and none of a vagina

It’s pretty weird that there’s only one vagina option and no associated sliders. Like... Why the imbalance?

Nah, I get what you’re saying. I just mean “legitimate” as “people have well thought-out feelings/opinions that deserve to be respected.”

I mean...yeah? Clearly? I never said otherwise, so I’m not sure where that response came from.

I mean

I actually respect the nomination and awards process a great deal. TGAs are basically the equivalent of the Golden Globes (awards selected by a jury of critics), and I think it deserves similar levels of respect. And I agree that it’s enjoyable seeing so many different things celebrated, especially because they

You’re totally right, it won GOTY at the DICE Awards and the GDCs, my bad! Thanks for the correction

I’d argue that Far Cry 3 is a much more interesting take on the whole ludonarrative dissonance thing, but that’s another conversation.

SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!

And for what it’s worth, I think the dialogue and story arc are incredibly well crafted. But writing in games is more than just the text itself.

I’m perfectly fine if things aren’t my jam, but that’s not the case here. I think TLOU2 reached far without asking why it was reaching so far. It tried to induce negative feelings in players with no justification beyond inducing negative feelings in players.

I don’t think Ash is saying any of this from a critical perspective—it’s entirely personal, and she’s talking about how it’s difficult for her to deal with the voice of a bigot in a beloved character.

Hearing the voice of someone who went on a horrific rant is a great way to turn me off entirely, tbh. It’s hard to shake that, for whatever reason.

There seems to be a lot of that, honestly. Not just in terms of features, but I really don’t think they justified the gross transphobic ads the way they said they would.
