I agree. I thought it was ok, certainly liked it enough to keep watching

I liked last night’s pilot episode. It felt like a fanfic mash-up of ST:TNG and ST:DS9. Even down to the score and sound effects. I didn’t realize how much I wanted something like that until last night.

Here’s the thing: I don’t think MacFarlane intended it to be a parody. I think he meant for it to be a loving homage to Star Trek: The Next Generation, albeit with dick jokes. Compared to something like Galaxy Quest or Other Space, it’s pretty much a straight pastiche of TNG with a lot of Family Guy-style humor

I disagree. The show was not well written and pacing was terrrible. I don’t see how the race of the character plays into it at all. If you were to replace “Asian American” with “white”, there would be an outrage. But somehow this is ok?

Remember when no one cried “Islamophobia” or “Arabophobia” when Hollywood cast a Spaniard to play an Arab?

Once Marvel picked Doctor Strange as a movie, it had a problem. Stephen Strange’s origin story is racist. The whole thing is based on a white person traveling to a land of Asian stereotypes. Making a non-offensive version of that story required a lot of work that no one on this movie seemed willing to do. It’s telling
