Pretty sure I didn’t say they should? But this is common fucking sense.
writing an entire eulogy about her life’s work that basically shits on her for the last year-ish of her time on Capitol Hill is distasteful.
I think her “significant health issues” all more or less boiled down to “being a 90 year old.” One of the primary activities 90 year olds engage in is dying. It was my 90 year old grandfather’s biggest hobby, briefly.
About fucking time.
And mandatory retirement ages. No one should be casting votes on bills that they won’t be alive to see come into law.
Term limits and age limits for every branch of government is the only way to go. Chuck Grassley a Republican senator is 90 and he has 5 more years to go on his current term. He filed paper work to run in 2028. Meaning he full intends to be in the senate past 100 years. The rest of us have to retire 60s-70s. It should…
Of course being 90 is a significant health issue in & of itself. You’re also ignoring her memory problems. There is no valid reason to be working when you’re 90, absolutely none, period, end of fucking story. Feinstein was the definition of clinging to power. Good fucking riddance.
Maybe not the number itself, but anyone at that age can veer almost immediately from healthy and alert to seriously impaired. It’s not a good idea to have that person sitting in a Senate seat waiting for it to happen.
If they didn’t learn their lesson after RBG, then I don’t think they ever will.
People who were her age when she started politics were in their 20's during the US Civil War.
Term limits. Now.
Yeah, that’s the thing. A lot of these people could be the absolute spitting image of health for an 86 year old, but that clock is still ticking. My great uncle swam laps, lifted weights, and volunteered regularly, including the day he just dropped dead at 84.
“I hope Feinstein’s memory is a blessing to those who knew her. And maybe a lesson to other aging politicians to gracefully resign while they still can.”
Well said.
I mean, being 90 is kind of a significant health issue in and of itself.
She was a trailblazer with a mostly positive, but mixed, record (e.g.: https://www.advocate.com/politics/dianne-feinstein-lgbtq-record), a typical left-leaning but powerful Democrat who, like many of her ilk, occasionally had trouble avoiding the temptation to punch left.
Oh, I think that’s absolutely right.
any positive legacy was erased by the disgrace of needing to cling to power selfishly long past the time of her mental competence. thank goodness the whole thing’s in the past finally. let’s roll our eyes and move on.
You have to wonder how much Feinstein was really aware of what she wanted toward the end there. It wasn’t clear she really knew anything that was going on around her. I bet if you’d asked her point blank what year it was, she would have struggled.
GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE AND YEARS TOO LATE.
