The ‘trademark must be actively protected’ meme needs to die in a fire. Trademark requires active USE, not active DEFENSE, and is designed to identify that the name has an official source of origin. Others ARE allowed to use it - that’s the entire point of trademark in the first place; if I mention Kleenex® brand
